SPANNER'S MISSION STATEMENT:

To enable teens and young adults with developmental disabilities to be included in their community through teen and young adult mentoring and therapeutic recreation strategies; and to assist them in developing the social skills and independence level necessary to make the transition from school to an adulthood offering a richer, more normalized life.

More About SPANNER:

SPANNER is a non-profit organization that pairs teens and young adults with disabilities to high school and college students, as well as young professionals to serve as their mentors. SPANNER is an acronym that loosely stands for Special Population Achieving Normalcy through Education and Recreation.

SPANNER now has three clubs, the Under 21 Club, the Over 21 Club, and the Out & About Club. The Under and Over 21 clubs use competitive games and challenges at the clubhouse to help club members learn to interact together,to devleop socially acceptable behavior, and to increase their communication skills.
  • The Under 21 Club is for those members who are still in high school. This club meets three times a month using the Hope Church clubhouse for most of their activities.
  • The Over 21 Club is for those members who are out of high school. This club meets twice a month at the clubhouse and then has the opportunity to go out one night for an event.
  • The Out & About Club is for those members who enjoy going out in the community for activities. They go out once a month.
